Plastic surgeon, humanitarian, educator, changer of lives.
2023 WA Women’s Hall of Fame Inductee

A fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery) Dr Anh Nguyen is a highly credentialled medical professional with more than 20 years’ surgical experience to her name.

The Director of Dr Anh Plastic Surgery and Medical Aesthetics, which she established in 2014, the Australian-trained surgeon is also a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Fiona Stanley Hospital, the largest tertiary and teaching public hospital in Western Australia, where, since 2015, she has been conducting emergency trauma surgeries and reconstructions for skin cancer patients, and training junior doctors, registrars and fellows in plastic surgery.

For more than a decade, Dr Anh has also been bringing her experience and expertise to the role of Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Joondalup Health Campus, Hollywood Private Hospital and St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital.

Growing up in the 80s and 90s as the eldest daughter of Vietnamese refugees, Dr Anh has completed her own transformative journey, from super-swot, tomboy and ‘ugly duckling’ to sought-after surgeon, speaker, educator, entrepreneur and philanthropist – who is finally comfortable in her own skin.

Day after day, the Vietnamese-born mum of three witnesses the transformative power of plastic surgery to change not only bodies, but also confidence and self-esteem.

From rebuilding limbs injured in traumatic accidents, reconstructing faces after dog attacks and remedying congenital defects, to breast reductions and tummy tucks, Dr Anh is a rarity in the world of medicine, where about 85% of Australian plastic surgeons are male.

Graduating from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery with Honours in 2001, Dr Anh began her surgical post-graduate studies at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne.  She went on to complete a gruelling training program specialising in plastic and reconstructive surgery.

In 2010, Dr Anh received Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (Plastic and Reconstructive surgery).  She then completed the prestigious aesthetic surgery fellowship with the Melbourne Institute of Plastic Surgery, being mentored by some of Australia’s leading plastic surgeons.

After learning from some of Australia’s finest, Vietnamese-born Dr Anh is committed to teaching and mentoring the next generation of plastic surgeons in Australia.

Not only is Dr Anh a Supervisor of Plastic Surgery International Medical Graduates at Fiona Stanley Hospital, but the Dr Anh Training Academy is designed to ensure standards in aesthetic surgery continue to rise and keep pace with the demands of an ever-evolving industry.

Dr Anh continues to drive innovation, using new technologies and techniques, such as 3D imaging and simulation, biometric facial profiling and augmented reality to help bring about the best outcomes for her patients.

She has been involved in research projects in aesthetic breast surgery and face-lifting, and has published several scientific papers, from labial reconstruction to lawn mower injuries in children.

As part of her ongoing professional development, Dr Anh attends surgical conferences around the world, continually adding to her specialist knowledge and growing her global network. She has presented at International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) and Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) meetings, and the Breast Masters Symposium.

Dr Anh is a member of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS), International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), Western Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (WASPS) and Vietnamese-Australian Medical Association. (V-AMA).

In 2017, Dr Anh was named by VOGUE AUSTRALIA as one of the four most influential businesswomen in the cosmetic industry.

Her awards include inductee of the 2023 WA Women’s Hall of Fame, winner of the MyFaceMyBody Awards for Best Medispa Australasia (2017), Best Overall Clinic Australasia (2016) and Best Aesthetic Clinic (2016). In 2018, Dr Anh was awarded Top Plastic Surgeon in Perth by the International Association of Plastic Surgeons.
